The original hamlet was probably of Etruscan origin. Today the historic centre, a stop on the Via Francigena, is surrounded by the old walls and gateways.
The San Francesco church, the Collegiata church and the Santa Maria Assunta church are all worth a visit. The Horti Leonini gardens are a superb example of an Italian garden. You can reach it from the main square: Piazza della Libertà.
